Night in the Village: The Belinga Foundation Celebrates Yembong Culture

On Saturday, February 15, 2025, The Belinga Foundation hosted a new edition of its traditional event, « Night in the Village, » in Nkolebengue, in the Mengong district. This evening, dedicated to the Yembong people, brought together three villages: Endam 2, Nkolowon, and Nkolebengue

The event, a true artistic and cultural fair, provided a platform for local arts and culture to express themselves. Around the large bonfire, songs, proverbs, stories, and legends brought back to life the spirit of a fabulous Africa that should be preserved from certain death. Participants also discovered tips for setting animal traps, as their ancestors did.

The village elders played an important role in transmitting Yembong culture, recalling the genealogy and emphasizing the values that should guide the community, such as virtue, respect for elders, work, and respect for the common good, which is the key to development.

Women and young girls were also very active during the evening, offering local dishes and introducing the art of Yembong cuisine. The chiefs of the villages of Endam 2, Nkolowon, and Nkolebengue actively participated in the evening, accompanied by their population.

The Belinga Foundation’s « Night in the Village » event is an initiative that aims to preserve and promote African culture. It would be interesting for other actors to join this initiative to carry the torch of African culture even higher.
